Before we had Off Campus and The Summer I Turned Pretty and Ginny & Georgia, we had Pretty Little Liars.
That show had me and millions of other viewers in a chokehold. Was it insane? Yes, and I loved it. Did it make sense? No, but that didn’t matter. Was it unproblematic? No, but let’s remember it premiered in 2010. (As someone who graduated from high school in 2010 — I realize I’m dating myself — it was a totally different time.)
The Ezra-Aria romance was certainly at the heart of the show’s issues. Now that the PLL days are long behind us, Lucy Hale and Ian Harding are reuniting for a Christmas movie. And let me just say, they were (and still are) the blueprint for selling chemistry. This video alone has me LOCKED IN. I will be front row whenever The Twelve Dates of Christmas comes out. Xoxo,
